Pensions Still Hot Topic in Springfield

2/8/2012

The new legislative session began in Springfield on January 31, but the main topic of conversation among lawmakers and the governor hasn't changed -- it's still pension funding. Senate President John Cullerton explained his ideas for pension reform to the State Journal Register's editorial board earlier this week, and Senate Democrats have provided extensive research on the issue in recent days. In his State of the State (SOS) address last week, Governor Quinn also mentioned pension concerns. His pension reform panel will meet later this week.

The IFT and our partners in the We Are One Illinois coalition are continuing to meet with the governor, legislative leaders and others this session to seek fair, sustainable solutions to the pension funding problem. (See IFT President Dan Montgomery's comments about pension funding in his response to the governor's SOS speech.)
