Make the most of summer with low-cost, online professional development

The IFT and Illinois Education Association have partnered with the Illinois State Board of Education to help PreK-12 teachers make the most of summer with an opportunity for convenient, low-cost professional development. Register today for classes that begin as soon as May 24, 2017!

This program is offered through ISBE and is designed to offer high-quality, engaging professional learning online. The cost is only $50 per course, and an Internet-connected computer is all that is required to participate.

The self-paced courses will be conducted over five to eight weeks, depending on the course chosen. Offerings include:

  • Math Talks: Engaging Students in Daily Discourse K-6 Transitioning the
  • Illinois Learning Standards for Science into the K-8 Classroom
  • Hack the Classroom With Google Apps and Extensions
  • Informational Text Literacy in the Elementary Grades
  • Illinois Civics Is Back
  • Algebraic Thinking in Elementary School
  • Assessing Student Work in Mathematics
  • Implementing the Eight Mathematical Practices in the Elementary School Classroom
  • Planning a Close Reading Lesson Step by Step: Grades 3-6
  • Setting the Stage for Close Reading in Grades K-2


Depending upon the course, 15-30 professional development hours will be available for each workshop completed. Participants may register for more than one.
