Pride of the Union Honors Union-building

Building the union is more important than ever. That's why the AFT celebrates its most active affiliates each year with the Pride of the Union awards. The 194 locals honored with this prestigious award have worked hard to dramatically grow their membership and increase active involvement and enthusiasm at the local level.



At a reception July 26, AFT President Randi Weingarten congratulated them all, including IFT's own, University Professionals of Illinois (UPI), Local 4100, President Ellie Sullivan. "You have been the heart, the soul, the brains of our union," Weingarten said, pointing out that, despite challenges at every turn, the union has chartered 58 new locals and 77 new unites in 18 states. "You are the reason I am hopeful that the movement not only survives, but succeeds."
