Take Part in "Week of Action" to Stop Unfair Cuts

8/13/2012

Governor Quinn has called a special session of the General Assembly on Friday, August 17 to pressure lawmakers to "enact comprehensive pension reform." In other words, he's asking them to slash the hard-earned pension YOU paid for and were promised.

But you can fight back! Beginning today, participate in the IFT's "Week of Action" to save your pension and tell lawmakers to oppose any unfair, unconstitutional pension legislation.

Starting today, here's what you must do:

  1. Call 888-412-6570 to tell legislators to oppose HB 1447 and pension-cutting bills like it
  2. Send a prewritten message to your lawmakers and Governor Quinn
  3. Attend the Rally at the Rotunda this Friday, August 17

Speaker Mike Madigan has said the House will vote on pension legislation this Friday. One of three bills may be considered: HB 1447 (which passed the Senate in May), or two new bills, HB 6209 or HB 6210.

In total, the bills would directly affect active and retired members of TRS, SURS, SERS and the General Assembly Retirement System (GARS). All the bills would force individuals to make a false "choice" between two sharply diminished plans. Click here to learn how they would impact you.

Fight back by participating in this "Week of Action" to save your pension!

Lawmakers must hear directly from YOU this week. Your retirement future depends on it.
