Happy Thanksgiving

At this time of year I always enjoyed teaching my students William Bradford’s Of Plymouth Plantation, in which Bradford describes the pilgrims’ first Thanksgiving celebrated with the life-saving assistance of the Wampanoag tribe. They ate plenty of cod and venison, corn and even some turkey. Is that what’s on your table?

As we celebrate on this Thanksgiving, 391 years after Bradford, his pilgrim compatriots and Native Americans, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere gratitude to the many members of IFT and our labor partners, friends and lawmakers who have supported us throughout the year. We appreciate all the hard work you do year round and hope that this holiday you are able to gather with family and friends and take time to reflect and give thanks.  We remember the many less fortunate than we, and rededicate ourselves to fighting for a more just society. I applaud all of you who give of yourselves to help others this season.

No matter where you are or what your contribution, your dedication and continued commitment to provide the best services possible to our students and citizens is nothing less than remarkable. And while we often regard the holiday as a welcome break from our daily routines, I would like to emphasize that your contribution is, in fact, anything but routine. Each of you is vital to this great organization and its mission.

For my part, I appreciate you for the time and energy you invest every day and am thankful for the opportunity to work with such extraordinary people. These are trying times and there is still much work to be done. But we should not forget how much we have to be thankful for.

So I would like to extend to all of you my gratitude and wishes for a happy and prosperous year ahead, working together to further our mission.

Happy Thanksgiving!
