A Day On, Not a Day Off

1/10/2013
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?"

Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together to focus on Dr. King's vision of a just and free society on the Martin Luther King, Jr (MLK) holiday.

MLK Day is a chance to start the year off right by doing what we, as union members, do best—lend a hand, help our neighbors, empower and strengthen our communities, and bridge social and cultural barriers. While three in ten organizations will close for business on MLK Day, the IFT is encouraging our members to use this opportunity to transform Dr. King's life and teachings into your own service-learning activities to help build better communities.

Join the hundreds of thousands of people who serve on MLK Day and throughout the year.

Find a volunteer opportunity, create/register a project, and help recruit and spread the word at MLKDay.gov.

Additional teaching resources can be found on Share My Lesson and the National Service-Learning Clearinghouse.
