Members Take a Stand Against Pension Mega-Bill at Lobby Day

5/01/2013

IFT members and leaders from around the state converged on the State Capitol today to speak out for equitable school funding and fair pension legislation. Specifically, they lobbied in opposition to House Amendment 1 to Senate Bill 1, a pension-slashing mega-bill sponsored by House Speaker Mike Madigan. The amendment passed the House Personnel and Pensions Committee early this morning and could be considered by the full House at any time. Watch IFT President Dan Montgomery testify here.

The annual event is a powerful way for members to display the union’s collective strength and voice concerns. Those who made the trip to Springfield attended a briefing to learn about the pension mega-bill and other important legislation before heading to the Capitol to speak with legislators.
