Help Us "Do What it Takes Before High Stakes"

Join AFT and IFT this Thursday, May 9 during our national Day of Action for getting Common Core State Standards (CCSS) implementation right!

More than 34,000 letters have already been sent calling for a moratorium on high stakes attached to Common Core-aligned assessments. Friday, President Weingarten released a new poll of members, demonstrating overwhelmingly support for both the CCSS and the moratorium. In addition, the poll provides interesting insights into how unprepared many teachers feel to teach to the CCSS and what supports they need to be successful.

But the success of our May 9 Day of Action depends on you. Here’s what we’re asking:
  1. Wear blue this Thursday! Engage members in wearing blue this Thursday, May 9 then take photos and send them to AFT will compile a national album of teachers and supporters standing together to put the brakes on the stakes and accelerate quality Common Core implementation.

  2. One thing you can do RIGHT NOW that will pay dividends on May 9 involves the AFT's recently launched Thunderclap. Thunderclap is a social media tool that allows people to pledge to update their Twitter and/or Facebook accounts in support of an issue. If enough people sign up, at a pre-established time all of the tweets and Facebook posts will automatically post on May 9. But to do this, we have to hit our goal of 250 supporters.

It's very simple. All you do is go to the link, hit the button (it may ask for your password or to allow permission to post), and then you're done.
