Get Free Books for Students

8/19/2013
Teachers and PSRPs, would you like to give your students free, high-quality books to read at home? Register with First Book by August 31 to be eligible for the upcoming First Book event in the Chicago area, where more than 400,000 free books will be distributed for students across the nation.

If your school is Title I-eligible or you work in (or volunteer at) a program where at least 70 percent of the children served are from low-income or military families, you are eligible to receive the free books. All special education classes and programs (whether Title 1 or not) also qualify to receive the books. Schools that do not qualify may register to “adopt” another school in the community or to donate books to a qualifying local organization. Everyone can get involved and help kids in need!

Getting the free books is easy:
  • First, register with First Book by August 31. Be sure to select American Federation of Teachers (AFT) in the Affiliated Organization box for the best chance to receive the books.

  • Next, check your inbox! First Book will send you two e-mails – one will confirm your registration and the second will provide book bank information.

  • Then, pick up your books! You will be assigned a pickup date and time at the book bank. If you can’t get the books, First Book will ship them for just 45 cents per book.
Register by August 31 for your first opportunity to receive these free or low-cost books. Additional opportunities will be available at future book distributions, which are held several times per year. You can also order books at anytime from the First Book Marketplace at up to 90 percent off retail cost.

Register with First Book today
to help needy students develop a love of reading and put them on a path to lifelong learning.
