This Is an Emergency

11/21/2013
This is it.

After two years of unrelenting attacks on our retirement security, lawmakers are convening in Springfield on December 3 to vote on a pension-gutting megabill.  We know you’ve heard these warnings before, but this has never been more real.

Reports indicate that the legislation would include devastating cuts for active members and retirees. It would slash cost of living adjustments, raise the retirement age, and severely gut the benefits you paid for.

It’s theft, it’s illegal, and it looks like it may pass.

Lawmakers must hear from every IFT member to stop it. The IFT and our coalition partners are calling for Pension Emergency Action Days, beginning next week. Here’s what you need to do:
  • On November 25-26 and December 2-3, call (888) 412-6570 and follow the prompts to speak with your Representative and Senator. Tell them to vote “NO” on any legislation opposed by the union, and that you’ll be paying attention to their choice.
  • Monday, December 2 is In-District Action Day. Save the date, and stay tuned for more information from your local leaders and staff about events we’ll be organizing at your legislators’ district offices.
But don’t wait until next week to act. You can e-mail your lawmakers NOW.

Rather than consider the bill we negotiated, Springfield politicians are trying to ram this through behind closed doors. They assume you’re too tired or too busy to fight back. We have to prove them wrong.

E-mail now. Call next week. Show up on December 2.

We've been successful in fighting this back for years, but it all comes down to this. It has never been more urgent.
