Strike Averted -- UIC United Faculty and UIC Administration Reach Tentative Agreement on First Contracts

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

After nearly two years of collective bargaining, UIC United Faculty union (Local 6456) successfully reached a tentative agreement with the University administration on labor contracts for tenure-track and non-tenure track members. The settlement happened following a two-day work stoppage in mid-February, further threat of an open-ended strike in late April, an appeal for binding arbitration, as well as a massive email and social media campaign to demand a fair contract from University of Illinois President Easter and the Board of Trustees. Many aspects of faculty work life and professional conditions are dramatically improved under the new agreement. The contract will extend through next year. The contract details are embargoed until voted on by union members at the end of next week.
