Be Prepared for Licensure Changes

6/05/2014

Last year Governor Quinn signed a law which will change the renewal requirements for K-12 teachers and school personnel who hold a Professional Educator License (PEL). The PEL replaced Initial, Standard, and Master teaching certificates last year. The new requirements will take effect on July 1, 2014.

To prepare for the transition to the new system, the IFT strongly recommends that teachers enter all their completed CPDUs into the current system by June 30, 2014. Be sure to maintain hard copies of CPDU evidence, as well.

To help members understand the changes set to take effect on July 1, the IFT has developed an up-to-date summary of the new requirements. Details about how the new system will work must still be developed through the administrative rule making process. A draft of the rules will be available for public comment, but no release date has been set.

Time is running out! Enter your current CPDU’s by June 30, and learn about the new requirements before they take effect on July 1.
