SJ-R: Our Opinion – Rauner Driving Wedges Instead of Building Bridges

Gov. Bruce Rauner stirred up a hornets’ nest last week when he reintroduced his desire to establish local right-to-work zones to spur economic development.

The announcement came two weeks after his inauguration and two weeks after the president of the Illinois AFL-CIO expressed hope for finding a way to work with the new governor.
“Sometimes it’s best if relationships start at ground zero because then they can only go up,” Michael Carrigan told a Lee Enterprises reporter.
Ground zero may be a moving target, given Rauner’s statements and labor’s reaction.
