Improve education equity in Illinois

The federal government is requiring every state to submit a plan by June 2015 explaining how it will achieve greater equity in the distribution of education resources. Every state has an existing "equity plan" on file with the U.S. Department of Education, but most plans - including Illinois' - are several years out of date.

Sign this petition today and share your thoughts about what should be updated in Illinois' education equity plan.

Since these equity plans can be used as guidelines for state and Title I resource allocations, your voice as an educator is critical in this process.  So-called education reformers will likely use this opportunity to press for increased funding for charter schools, a reduction in impediments to charter school expansion and vouchers, and increased efforts to deunionize the public school workforce.

Review Illinois' current equity plan here, then sign this petition and share your thoughts about how the plan should be updated.

This is an important opportunity for you to provide input about what is needed in your school and community to ensure that ALL children - no matter their ZIP code - have equal access to a high-quality education.

Please sign this petition and provide your input today!
