IFT members join with their communities to demand the schools our students deserve

Yesterday, thousands of teachers, staff, students, and parents across Illinois walked in to their neighborhood schools together to support public education and demand the schools our students deserve.

The events were part of a historic day of action. Nationwide, about 2,000 schools that serve nearly 1 million students participated, making it the largest coordinated action for public education in American history!

In Illinois, nearly 40 cities and towns took part. IFT locals and councils held positive, inspirational events as a part of the nationwide movement to bring equity and social justice to our public schools and colleges. The events were sponsored by the IFT and American Federation of Teachers in partnership with the Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools (AROS).

Participants used the power of social media and the hashtag #ReclaimOurSchools to reach more than 1.3 million Twitter users.

Similar events held in February and May attracted more than 100,000 participants nationwide.
