IFT Response to Governor Rauner’s veto of CPS funding

WESTMONT – In response to Governor Rauner’s veto of $215 million in funding for Chicago Public Schools (SB2822), IFT President Dan Montgomery released the following statement:
“In trying to defend his decision to veto $215 million for Chicago Public Schools, Governor Rauner spent seven paragraphs talking about meeting schedules, the election, and his desire to enact unconstitutional pension laws. He made it sound very complicated, but what happened today is quite simple really. Months ago, a bipartisan majority of the legislature, including many Republicans, voted to help fund our state’s largest school system, and today the Governor used his power to trump their decision. He has effectively turned his back on 400,000 school children and the taxpayers of Chicago until he gets his way on unrelated political reform, and that is indefensible.”
