It all comes down to tomorrow. Please VOTE.

11/05/2018
It’s been another long election season. We’ve been inundated with ads, phone calls, fliers, and news articles about the candidates and the issues. But tomorrow is the most important election of our lifetimes, and I urge you to VOTE!

The choice in this election is crystal clear. We have the opportunity – and the responsibility – to elect individuals who will stand up for our unions, public education, and workers.

From JB Pritzker for governor and Kwame Raoul for attorney general, to congressional candidates Sean Casten (IL-6), Brendan Kelly (IL-12), Betsy Dirksen Londrigan (IL-13), and Lauren Underwood (IL-14), to dozens of key legislative candidates, our union has thoroughly vetted and endorsed women and men who share our values. They have committed to listening to our concerns and working with us, not against us. (View a printable list of IFT-endorsed candidates here.)

That is in stark contrast to the last four years under Bruce Rauner.

As IFT members, we know too well how Rauner held our state budget hostage to his unpopular political agenda for more than two years. In the process, he shuttered programs for our neediest citizens, sent tens of thousands of Illinois college students to other states, and forced layoffs of thousands of workers. He advocated for cuts to public pensions, vetoed a bill to increase the statewide minimum teacher salary, and still hasn’t paid our public employees more than two years of back pay they are owed, despite the court ordering him to do so. To add insult to injury, he originally brought the Janus case in Illinois in an obsessive attempt to destroy our unions and take away our voice.

Illinois cannot afford four more years of Bruce Rauner’s failed leadership. And we can’t afford to elect candidates who share Rauner’s views and will continue his anti-worker agenda.

As a longtime teacher and proud IFT member, I know that when we stand up – and speak out – for our values, we can have a tremendous impact. That is why each of us must exercise our right to vote.

If you haven’t already cast your ballot, I urge you to VOTE tomorrow, November 6th. Polls are open statewide from 6am – 7pm. Find your polling place here.

I thank you, in advance, for taking part in this important election. Together, we will ensure that our state and our students have a brighter future beginning Nov. 7th!

In Solidarity,

Daniel J. Montgomery
IFT President
