IFT Statement on JB Pritzker's election win

11/06/2018
CHICAGO - Tonight, Illinois Federation of Teachers President Dan Montgomery released the following statement about JB Pritzker’s election as governor of Illinois.

“On behalf of the IFT, I want to congratulate JB Pritzker and Juliana Stratton on their overwhelming win in the governor’s race. Their victory is a victory for our schools, our communities, and all working people in our state.

By electing JB Pritzker as governor and Juliana Stratton as lieutenant governor, Illinois voters sent a crystal-clear message – Bruce Rauner’s divisive, extreme agenda failed us all for four years.

In Pritzker, voters have elected a governor who will bring people together, not tear them apart. One who will fight to amplify the voice of working people, not silence it. And one who will work to lift up every Illinoisan, not just the 1 percent.

The IFT was proud to have been the first teachers’ union to endorse JB and Juliana. Across the state, our members and staff have worked tirelessly to help them win this critical election. Tonight, I’m excited to say that those efforts paid off and that Illinois will be the better for it.

Our union looks forward to working with our new governor and lieutenant governor as they begin the hard work necessary to put our state back on the right path. I have no doubt that they can get it done.”

The Illinois Federation of Teachers represents 103,000 teachers and paraprofessionals in PreK-12 school districts throughout Illinois, faculty and staff at Illinois’ community colleges and universities, public employees under every statewide elected constitutional officer, and retirees.
