While there are still wrinkles to iron out, we applaud Dist. 150 for working with the PFT to make sure that teachers are not penalized unfairly.

Tenured teachers at Peoria’s three high schools and Sterling Middle School who receive “needs improvement” on evaluations this year will not automatically be eligible for pink slipping when District 150 starts its annual teacher layoff process this year.

Here's what IFT President Dan Montgomery had to say in response:

"This agreement between Dist. 150 and the union shows that when labor and management work together, good things happen for kids and their teachers. This is an important signal that the flaws of some school reform efforts need to be managed thoughtfully at the local level to make sure that kids are not harmed by the results. While there are still wrinkles to iron out, we applaud Dist. 150 for working with the PFT to make sure that teachers are not penalized unfairly."
