CHICAGO – With refugees stranded and Illinois in crisis, Governor Rauner is in Palm Springs huddling with the Koch brothers. IFT President Dan Montgomery released the following statement in response:
“While children, refugees, and green card holders are being detained at our airports and Illinois is still without a budget, Bruce Rauner is one of only three Governors strategizing with the Koch brothers at a Palm Springs resort.

Earlier this week, Rauner delivered a cheery speech in which he painted a picture of Illinois at odds with reality. He failed to mention the higher education system and social services crumbling by his own design, fulfilling a promise he made to force Illinois into crisis to get political leverage and enact his own agenda.

I don’t care what he says in a speech. Actions speak louder than words. He’s not compassionate. He’s not willing to work together. In one of our darkest hours, he’s plotting with billionaires on how to make the rich richer.”
Later in 2015, Rauner stated that Illinois would stop accepting Syrian refugees.

The Governor has repeatedly declined to speak about his support for Trump and recently contributed $50 million to his own campaign to encourage “bipartisan compromise.
