Union Leadership Institute

The Illinois Federation of Teachers recognizes the quality union-sponsored professional development is critical to helping you be more effective in your job and as a union leader That's why the IFT offers a wide variety of professional development programs designed to enhance your skills and provide strategies to help educators, including paraprofessionals, meet the requirements of their professions.

IFT members have been taking advantage of the union's professional development programs since 1979. Courses are taught by union members and staff who have been specially trained to meet your professional development and union training needs.


2018-19 ULI North
Most courses are presented over three weekend sessions: November 3-4, 2018, February 9-10, 2019, and April 27-28, 2019. Participants must attend all three weekend sessions to complete these courses. Special one-weekend sessions are also available.

Great Lakes ULI
This four-day training and leadership development program, co-sponsored by the IFT and AFT, is designed to enhance local capacity for all constituency groups.

Worksite Leader training program
