Support striking charter school educators at UNO/Acero!

by Jennifer Visk | Dec 07, 2018
Solidarity for striking teachers!

After more than six months of difficult negotiations, over 500 IFT members in the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU, Local 1) who work at 15 UNO/Acero charter schools were forced to the picket lines on Tuesday. It’s the first-ever strike of a charter operator in U.S. history.

These brave members are fighting for more resources for their students and better working conditions for educators and paraprofessionals. Learn more about the important issues at stake here.

Our brothers and sisters at UNO/Acero need our support! Here’s how you can help:

  • Rally with community and labor supporters on Sunday, December 9, at 1 p.m. at the CTU office, 1901 W. Carroll, Chicago. Learn more and RSVP here

  • Join the picket lines. Picketing is taking place at Acero Schools (locations/map) each day of the strike from 6:30-10:30 a.m. (Note that picketing at Santiago School is from 7-11:30 a.m.)

  • Show your support on social media. Post local/council solidarity photos and messages and tag them with #faircontractnow and #CTUACTSstrike. For the latest strike news and updates, like the CTU, ChiACTS, and United Educators for Justice (UEJ) on Facebook, or follow them on Twitter under the handles @CTULocal1, @ChiACTS, and @UEUChicago.

Please do whatever you can to show your SOLIDARITY with these workers who are braving the winter weather to fight for what is right for students, educators, and school staff!
