IFT NEXT GENERATION COUNCIL
Congratulations! We are excited that you have chosen a career in the education and public service fields. These occupations can be rewarding and challenging, especially if you are young or new to the profession. The Illinois Federation of Teachers (IFT) wants to help you succeed throughout your career.
As your union, we also want to ensure that your voice is heard! That’s why our Next Generation (Next Gen) Council is looking for new and young leaders like you. Next Gen leaders help us identify areas of improvement and create new growth paths in our union.
Young leaders are passionate, energetic, and full of ideas. We want to work alongside you to support you in your new journey.
WE HOPE YOU WILL JOIN US AS A NEXT GEN LEADER.
WHAT IS THE NEXT GEN COUNCIL?
This IFT group is comprised of education and public service professionals under the age of 35 who work together and network with other leaders. The Next Gen Council provides a space to advocate for new and young members during turbulent times and build resilience through collective action.
Additionally, we will work to build statewide power to collectively address your concerns via state legislation.
WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF THE NEXT GEN COUNCIL?
The group seeks to improve the lives of new and young members of all backgrounds and achieve social and economic justice for students and working families in our communities.
IFT Next Gen leaders meet, organize, and act around the following goals:
Sustaining your leadership and growing your union local’s involvement in the IFT.
Developing a strategic and all-encompassing vision for your local that incorporates the concerns of young and new members.
Promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion while staying strongly grounded in your local.
Managing disruptions and change while influencing and meeting your local’s short- and long-term goals.
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?
