Educator input needed

The Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) has sponsored the development of Model Programs of Study Guides as part of the Perkins V Plan, also called the Illinois State Plan for Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act. The draft guides are now open for review and public comment.

The IFT’s CTE-STEM Committee has concerns about the potential impact these guides could have on teaching career and technical education courses. Committee members are also worried that the Education guide could impact teacher preparation programs.

Please submit your comments about the guides.

Guides have been developed in four areas:

  • Education

  • Health Sciences & Technology

  • Information Technology

  • Manufacturing & Engineering

These Model Programs of Study Guides were developed pre-COVID and are likely to be much less meaningful in a remote teaching environment. In addition, they were drafted with minimal input from teachers, raising the concern that they don’t reflect actual practice.

Tell the ICCB about your concerns with these guides and how they could impact teaching and learning in our K-12 schools, community colleges, and universities. Review them and then submit your feedback.

Please provide your valuable input before August 28.
