May Day: Standing Together for Our Students, Our Communities, and Democracy

May Day will be a powerful statewide and national moment, and we want you to be a part of it. Now more than ever, it is our solidarity that will energize this fight to put people over profits, fund our public schools and services, and do so by making the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share.
These are not ordinary times for our schools, our communities, or our country. Across the nation, families are feeling growing instability, from threats to civil rights and public services, to heightened fear and uncertainty in immigrant communities, to policies that directly impact our students’ ability to learn, feel safe, and thrive. Educators and public workers see these challenges every day in our classrooms, on our campuses, and in our workplaces.
That’s why we’re encouraging members to take part in May Day, a long‑standing day of solidarity for working people, families, and communities.
Join educators, public workers, unions, and community organizations from across the state for a peaceful rally and march calling for dignity, fairness, and opportunity for all. We’ll be standing alongside a powerful and diverse coalition committed to protecting public education, public services, and the fundamental freedoms that allow our communities to flourish. And we’ll be calling on our lawmakers to tax the ultra-wealthy, fully fund schools in Illinois, and stand up for working people over billionaires and their profits.

Protecting our communities and rejecting policies that create fear and division
Expanding democracy and defending the fundamental rights that allow our communities to thrive
THIS MOMENT MATTERS
Our students and children are paying attention. As educators and union members, we have both a responsibility and an opportunity: to show them what it looks like to participate in democracy, to stand up for one another and their future, and to act collectively with courage and solidarity.
As educators and public servants, we will continue to do our civic duty and uphold our shared responsibility in this challenging moment. Showing up matters to our students, to one another, and to the communities we serve.
